COVOITURAGE

Three performers with intellectual disabilities explore a world dominated by artificial intelligence in this funny, compelling piece that questions ‘the norm’ and lays bare our human vulnerabilities.

On stage, experts debate the growing power of artificial intelligence and its impact on human rights. If artificial intelligence controls the world, will human beings all end up living with ‘intellectual disabilities’? How will we feel when our capability is judged to social standards determined by algorithm? The audience gets a glimpse of the answer when the surtitles that scroll over the stage suddenly come to life and upset the state of play... Exploring individual and collective responsibility, Back to Back Theatre’s funny, hard-hitting piece invites us to rethink the way we make decisions, pushing us beyond comparisons and appearances towards an ever kinder
and more civic-minded society.

Australian company Back to Back Theatre make visible what society has decided not to see. Rarely appearing in France, their acclaimed work illustrates the complex relationships between those with so-called ‘intellectual disabilities’ and those who represent the norm – a prism this atypical ensemble use to reveal the unstable foundations on which contemporary society is built.
