For her first creation Yasmine Yahiatène, in search of herself, has chosen to approach her personal story as an act of repair.
Music cassettes, photos, a drawing, sounds, words, a giant screen – Yasmine Yahiatène’s stage is full of carefully selected memories. At first, these objects seem strangely foreign to her, uprooted. But it is through them that she embarks on a quest for herself and her past. It will take her back to her Kabyle origins (of which she knows little) and back to the experience of her father’s alcoholism – two landmarks between which she draws an intimate and emotive map. Taboos, shame, silence... It will take her the length of a performance to understand how to repair each fracture and form herself in her own story – reconstructed at last.
BIOGRAPHY | Yasmine Yahiatène is a multidisciplinary visual artist, video artist, and performer who trained at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Tournai, the Université des Beaux-Arts de Valence in Spain, and Rencontres Audiovisuelles in Lille. Questions of how to change and adapt are recurrent themes in her work, which she uses to convey a civic, humanist message.
