Autour du « kotatsu », table chauffante traditionnelle japonaise, parents, enfants et proches se retrouvent pour un moment censé célébrer leur réussite commune. Mais derrière l’apparente convivialité de cette réunion familiale, des tensions émergent peu à peu. Les conversations, les souvenirs partagés et les échanges sur les réseaux sociaux révèlent progressivement les fragilités, les non-dits qui les traversent. 

Oriza Hirata et Pascal Rambert s’appuient sur la symbolique du « kotatsu » pour créer un espace intime où se mêlent chaleur, proximité et confrontation. Dans ce jeu de rôle ou de dupes, ils dissèquent la sphère intime pour mieux révéler les failles de la société contemporaine.

Tokyo. Gathered to celebrate the New Year, a Japanese family whose small business, founded a generation earlier, has grown into a thriving international company is rocked by tensions and threats that could see them lose everything.

Gathered around the ‘kotatsu’, a traditional Japanese heated table, parents, children and relatives come together intending to celebrate their shared success. But beneath the apparent warmth of this family gathering, tensions begin to build. Conversations, shared memories, and exchanges on social media slowly reveal the fragilities and unspoken truths that underpin their relationships. Oriza Hirata and Pascal Rambert draw on the symbolism of the ‘kotatsu’ to create an intimate space where warmth, closeness and confrontation intertwine. In this game of masks and deception, they dissect the private sphere to reveal the flaws of contemporary society.
