Rarement enclin à la parole, lui qui a toujours privilégié le corps comme moyen d’expression et comme support scénographique, il choisit cette fois la parole comme moyen d’exister et de résister. À travers ce geste, il convoque une rencontre où chacun·e, artiste et spectateurs, spectatrices, devient à la fois témoin et acteur, dans un espace où la parole circule, transforme, libère. 

Un espace où l’émergence de nouvelles formes de pensée et d’action devient possible, loin de nos virtualités galopantes. Au cœur de cette performance, Steven Cohen se livre à un rituel qui devient une invitation à une transformation partagée, où l’art et la vie se confondent.

Seldom working with the spoken word, Cohen has always preferred to use the body as a means of expression and part of his scenography. Here he breaks the trend, taking speech as his medium to exist and resist. In doing so, he creates an encounter where every person, whether artist or spectator, becomes both witness and actor in a space where words circulate, transform and liberate. New forms of thought and action appear. The shadow of virtuality is cast off. At the heart of the performance, Cohen creates a ritual that becomes an invitation to a shared transformation, merging art and life. 

Steven Cohen, performer and associate artist at TNB, uses public spaces (as well as art galleries and theatres) to question perceptions of the queer and marginalised body–starting with his own. His work has embraced forms of procession and ritual, such as in the performance Boudoir presented at the Festival TNB 2022.
