Theatre knows how to speak with its dead, its spectres, its phantoms. This edition of TNB Festival celebrates the departed without slipping into excessive pathos or floods of embarrassing tears, acting instead with an immediate and moving sincerity. The dead are not forgotten on this theatre’s stages. They are summoned by dance, magnified by bodies and colours, or appear in phantom films conjured by voice and music. Thanks to the artists of TNB Festival, memories of the departed are a celebration and tribute, a ritual incantation and a will to remember.
