In a solo conceived as a cycle of fragmented scenes, Mackenzy Bergile draws a self-portrait that is both intimate and political. Through words and movement, the Haitian-born dancer searches for beauty in chaos.

Autothérapie comes from an attempt at radical transparency: to expose to the gaze of others an unvarnished portrait in which painful memories, secrets and traumas are left in the open. Starting from the idea that healing the world begins with healing oneself, Mackenzy Bergile rebuilds his own memory and identity in a space where dance, writing and music provide the path to resilience. Borrowing from Spiralism, an artistic movement that emerged in twentieth-century Haiti, the dancer and poet plays on irregularity, ruptures and returns, creating a movement modality centred on spinal undulation.

Mackenzy Bergile’s career path has been shaped by his desire to understand his identity through Haitian and French roots. And while this solo comes after several years of work in collective projects (including Boris Charmatz’s La Ruée, presented at the 2018 TNB Festival, and Linda Hayford’s Abîmes, premiered in February 2026 at the TNB), it is not a sign that the dancer is withdrawing into himself. On the contrary, the body becomes a political vector, a place to revisit and reinterpret personal and collective experiences.
