Taking as his starting point Hans Christian Andersen’s well-known fairy tale, The Ugly Duckling, Alexis Armengol writes and stages a play about self-reinvention. Vilain! toys with the notion of metamorphosis, evoking the character of a young orphan girl. He reclaims the fairy tale in order to elicit the transition to adolescence in a play for young and old alike. Alexis Armengol is the founder of the company Théâtre à cru. His work explores various disciplines in a multi-faceted expression, resulting in a delightful hybridization such as Vilain!. He presented his earlier play, J’avance et j’efface, at the TNB in 2014.
