On stages a football stand is filled with diehard fans who share their undying passion for their club. Artist Mohamed El Khatib invites 53 RC Lens supporters to the stage, live or by video, and gives them the floor.
The result is this unusual show — a stylish, celebratory mix of politics and sports that smashes clichés and proves football and theatre can go hand in hand. Fans or hooligans, the participants in this piece are not actors nor performers — just regular people confessing their total addiction to football in a performance that is itself conceived as a match, with two stretches of play broken by halftime (and the sale of beer and chips). A unique experience that brings together the passion and fervour of football and theatre.
An associate artist at TNB who recently presented the pieces Boule à neige with Patrick Boucheron and Gardien Party with Valérie Mréjen, Mohamed El Khatib disrupts theatre with a realist approach drawing on improvisation and work with amateurs.
