A powerful monologue written by a trans woman, Pour un temps sois peu leaves nothing out of its account of the metamorphosis from one gender to another.

Born in 1987, Laurène Marx is a nonbinary trans woman who sees writing and political struggle as inextricably linked. Writing without a cause is impossible for her, she says. This monologue recounts the details of her transition: surgery, psychiatric treatment, dealing with social conventions and the gaze of others, and her own inner journey. She does not gloss over the dilemmas she faced. As a woman, should she submit to the codes of patriarchal submission, fall into line within a binary society, and embrace gender convention — or continue her struggle for fulfilment and individuality? This raw text is performed by the actor Hélène Rencurel, directed with skill and precision by director Lena Paugam.

Laurène Marx’s text was commissioned by Collectif Lyncéus, a company founded in Bretagne by Lena Paugam. Hosted at the TNB on several occasions, she presented Et, dans le regard, la tristesse d’un paysage de nuit (Mettre en scène 2015), then Les Sidérées and Les Cœurs tétaniques (Mettre en scène 2016).
