In his work, the American short story writer and poet, Raymond Carver, sows a long furrow of banality, planting the seeds of losers, malcontents, and lost souls, in essence portraying the lives of average people. His stories are unspectacular, yet given the incisiveness of his scrutiny, they create a sensation of vertigo. He shatters our certainties and transforms the banal into something truly enthralling.
Guillaume Vincent adapts 6 of Carver’s stories for the stage and portrays couples obsessed with betrayal and adultery. With 9 actors who played in his Songes et métamorphoses last season, Vincent undertakes a choral, quasi-musical exploration of such earth-shaking moments that are both comical and pathetic, moving us from laughter
to tears.
