MADELEINE LOUARN

DIRECTOR

30 years ago, Madeleine Louarn created the Atelier Catalyse, a theatre company in Morlaix whose performers are people with disabilities. Under her impetus, the amateur troupe became permanent and professional. For 30 years now, this Breton woman, who directed the Théâtre de l'Entresort, which became the National Centre for Adapted Creation within the SE/cW (pronounced "siou") cultural platform in Morlaix, has been demonstrating that what makes us different brings us together. Whether she is staging William Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett, Lewis Caroll, Daniil Harms, Aristophanes or, at the TNB in 2022, Gulliver, adapted from Jonathan Swift's story, the artist is constantly seeking to bring the poetics of the stage to life through new modes of play and performance. Above all, she affirms that disability, by opening up to otherness and the unknown, is also an exciting exploration of the possibilities of life.

Since 2005, she has been joined in her adventure by the director Jean-François Auguste, who co-signs most of her shows, including Le Grand Théâtre d'Oklahama (at the TNB in 2018) and the creation of Opérette in 2020 with 10th promotion of the TNB Drama School. An explosive and carnivalesque piece that concretised the compagnonnage of Madeleine Louarn and the Atelier Catalyse over the three years of training. A collaboration that Madeleine Louarn will continue with the new promotion 11.
