Designed by Sara Leghissa, this deeply sensory experience unsettles the audience’s relationship with reality by immersing them in a vivarium ( rettilario in Italian ).
Wearing headphones, the audience move in and out of a glass enclosure, joined by the performer Sarah Leghissa. Surrounded by heaps of different materials, they listen to a soundtrack made up of the rolling murmur of trains, voices, or station footsteps. With the help of sound effects, the artist encourages us to reconsider echoes of urban life by reinterpreting human movements, shifting them gradually from the concrete to the abstract. What do we see on the other side of the glass ? Who populates our cities ? Do we behave differently depending on the space we’re in ? These questions arise and unfold within a cleverly compact staging.
An independent artist based in Milan, Sarah Leghissa has presented her work at numerous international events and venues, such as Santarcangelo Festival, Short Theatre, Triennale Teatro Dell’Arte, Festival FAR, La Casa Encendida, Festival Parallèle, SAAL Biennaal, MIRfestival, the arts centre Beursschouwburg, and Submerge Festival in Manchester
