Julie Duclos

Stage director

Actor-stage director Julie Duclos trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique de Paris (National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, Paris). In 2011, she founded the troupe In-Quarto and staged Fragments d’un discours amoureux/Fragments of a Lover’s Discourse, adapted from Roland Barthes, and Masculin/Féminin. Her creative work includes improvisation, conversations, riffs on quotations, autofiction, fragmentation and montage: her evolving method continues in Nos Serments/Vows presented at the TNB in 2017. Her theater lies somewhere between playfulness and “actor documentary”, written text and improvisation, video and stage. She gives pride of place to a very contemporary way of exploring the borderlands of intimacy.

In 2017 she staged MayDay by Dorothée Zumstein and, in 2019, for the Avignon Festival, Pelléas et Mélisande by Maurice Maeterlinck, a play she rehearsed in residence at the TNB.
