In 1983, the 11 year-old Pierre Maillet saw the now cult film Tootsie in a provincial cinema. Dustin Hoffman, disguised as a woman, triggered a revelation: Maillet was to become an actor.
How is a vocation born? How does an artist develop? What role can art play in our lives? Tanguy Viel’s delicate, musical text for Pierre Maillet delves deep into intimate territory. With warm humour, the writer revisits the actor’s first love – cinema, the 7th art. The result is the portrait of a young man, but also of a generation. It evokes the film world of the 80s and 90s: posters kept preciously on bedroom walls, video clubs, the horror films you watched in secret. Then came auteur cinema. This emotional and intellectual awakening, projected across the dark screens of his sleepless nights, shaped the man of the theatre that Pierre Maillet is today: an intense, multi-layered actor, suffused with the cinematic stories he has watched since childhood.
BIOGRAPHY | Émilie Capliez has known the actor Pierre Maillet for over 20 years. On the strength of their friendship, she commissioned Tanguy Viel to handcraft a story that would fit him like a glove. Maillet began his career at the TNB School, where he was part of the school’s first class. Rennes audiences have already seen him in Letzlove – Portrait(s) Foucault and One Night with Holly Woodlawn in 2018, as well as in Mes jambes, si vous saviez quelle fumée... by Bruno Geslin in 2022.
