A solo performed by an exceptional actress, Emmanuelle Lafon, Parlement summons words of all shapes and sizes to form a joyous verbal flow.
Facing the microphone, Emmanuelle Lafon channels a constant flow of words, reproduced verbatim from the Internet, the street, and the television. Parlement, an extension of the Encyclopédie de la parole project conceived and led by Joris Lacoste, combines political speeches, intimate confidences, public interjections, telephone conversations, excerpts from sports commentaries, and snippets of conversations in English, German and Japanese. Without any hierarchy of value or logical coherence, words follow one another, accumulating and forming into a new natural language sustained by the breath, presence and virtuosity of the performer. An auditory experience that conjures diverse scenes of life in the audience’s imagination.
For years, Emmanuelle Lafon has been exploring speech with Joris Lacoste as part of the Encyclopédie de la parole. She regularly teaches at the TNB Drama School.
