Stories of passion, jealousy, desire, rivalry between aging bodies. A disturbing spiral that leads to madness.

Phia Ménard takes up Jean Cocteau’s 1929 novel, sets it to music by Philip Glass, and transports it to a world where disorder reigns supreme. The story of 2 orphans, sister and brother, whom only death will disunite, Les Enfants terribles is a tale of mad desire for a love that breaks free from convention. In exploring adolescence and its mysteries, Ménard also reflects on old age and the metamorphosis of bodies. The repetitive notes struck on 3 pianos propel the drama into a hallucinatory dimension. This contemporary opera slowly curls in on itself, with an undulating scenography and a vibrant, secretive setting that suggests a labyrinth of obsession.

Performer and an associate artist at TNB, Phia Ménard is also president of TNB Drama School and a regular tutor. She created Fiction Friction in February 2022, with students from the 10th class.
