Taking inspiration from the history of science and its imagery, Tout l’univers is a poetic journey through the different scales and measures of matter.
Dimly lit, an imposing 9-metre-high sculpture made from wire and metallic tubes levitates above the stage. As the audience slowly take their places around it, their eyes are riveted to this giant form as though watching the glow of a distant galaxy. Animated by the combined work of a crew of technicians, musicians and performers, this assemblage begins to breathe, unfold, and come to life. As it does, it captures an array of insights, sensations, sounds, images and stories that arouse our eternal, elusive need to understand the universe. Laboratory-show, concert-sculpture, narrative art object — with Tout l’univers Xavier Veilhan, Eve Risser, Alexis Bertrand and Jérôme Tuncer have created something unique: an ever-shifting form that comes into being on the boundary between the visible, the measurable, and the hypothetical.
BIOGRAPHY | An associate artist at TNB, Xavier Veilhan is a visual artist who defies categorisation and often collaborates with practitioners from other fields – here with set designer Alexis Bertrand and sound artists Eve Risser and Jérôme Tuncer. Taken together, Veilhan’s multifaceted work is a long-running reflection on the capacity of art to ‘restore the intangible and arouse wonder in the face of a redefined reality’. In residence during TNB Festival, Tout l’univers will be presented as a preview ahead of premiere performances on 29–30 May 2024.
