Lou Doillon takes us on a literary and musical journey dedicated to the poems of Emily Dickinson. The result is an intimate experience that sheds light on this major American poet whose work went unrecognised for many years.

Born in 1830, Emily Dickinson lived almost the entirety of her life in a small Puritan community in Amherst, Massachusetts. This way of living, a rebellion against the conventions of her era, earned Dickinson the nickname ‘the Myth of Amherst’. Today, her literary legacy encompasses hundreds of letters and more than 1800 poems, while her modernity and stylistic freedom have made her one of the most widely read authors in the world. Lou Doillon, fascinated by Dickinson’s strangeness, presents a reading from a selection of her poems and letters. For her it is a way to lift some of the veil of mystery that surrounds this person, so extraordinary for her place and time, and to show us a tiny part of her genius.

A multitalented artist, musician, designer and actor, Lou Doillon made her film debut directed by Agnès Varda, and has since appeared in some fifteen films. She has a close relationship with the world of fashion, both as muse and designer. In 2012, she was named Artist of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique awards for her debut album Places. She has since released three more albums. Lou Doillon made her theatrical debut in 2008 with L’Image by Arthur Nauzyciel and Damien Jalet, recreated at the 2017 TNB Festival.
