Creation in Rennes (July 2022)

Marching Band Project is a hymn to a diverse and ephemeral community of marchers who transcend boundaries and labels.

This itinerant project, led by visual artist Frédéric Nauczyciel, the American voguer Marquis Revlon, and the musical director Sylvain Cartigny, is one that rejects all limitations and restrictions. For its latest edition in Rennes, the core trio is joined by Clément Le Goff, a local artist and ambassador of traditional Breton culture. With representatives from the United States and France, the artists create a living, participatory form with a completely transcultural essence.

This is a marching band that reinvents itself according to where it plays, that transforms whatever it crosses, and that unites its marchers through an ethos of surpassing differences (whether in artistic discipline, age or culture). The presentation in Rennes will be unique to the city. The four artists have worked together at the intersection of marching culture, voguing, baroque music, and Breton culture to create, with the inclusion of local amateur artists, Marching Band Project Roazhon. After each intervention an installation is open to the public as both a trace and a continuation of the parade.
