Somewhere between the abstract and the figurative, this two-hander deconstructs the mechanisms that shape our dominant representations of art – exploding the status quo in a burst of laughter.
The duo Cavaliers impurs (Troubled Riders) is a cabaret, a collage of genre-bending acts that takes place in a giant opened-out cardboard box. The piece celebrates the art of dance, the cover version, the drag show and features the menopausal dance, and performance art gone adrift. From number to number, the two performers channel a multitude of venerable personalities who come to populate the stage.
The work of Latifa Laâbissi, associate artist at TNB, conjures landscapes, stories, characters and voices. Installations, lectures, performances, multidisciplinary collaborations – each new creation questions the notion of art and the politics of its forms. Antonia Baehr is a choreographic artist and filmmaker, living in Berlin. Her creations study fiction of everyday life and of theater, among other themes. Together, they created Consul et Meshie, presented at the 2018 TNB Festival, and worked on the video Moving Backwards by the artist duo Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz, presented at the Swiss Pavilion for the 58th Venice Biennale.
