In January 2018, the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal held a session in Paris on the rights of migrants and refugees. In this piece, Patricia Allio channels her experience of the event into the theatre, catching it between two words in Breton: Dispak (‘open, deployed, uncovered, unpacked, unfolded, in disorder’) and Dispac’h (‘agitation, revolt, revolution’). Two words to begin a piece that searches for a truth beyond laws and verdicts. Artists, citizens, activists and lawyers tell of the pitfalls that await asylum seekers in a piece that goes beyond a mere transcription of reality, presenting an immersive enactment that shifts and evolves.
An adept of the theatre with a knack for capturing the world in motion, the artist, director and performer Patricia Allio is appearing at TNB this season with two pieces, Autoportrait à ma grand-mère and Dispak Dispac’h.
