STEVEN COHEN

PERFORMER

Choreographer, performer and visual artist Steven Cohen is a creator who explores the flaws and graces of humanity. The artist was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He now lives in France and engages his body in intimate, sensitive and surprising performances that he gives in theatres, museums, galleries or public spaces. With his ear to the margins, starting with his own identity, he embodies himself in a work where his body remains the main support of his expression.

After crossing a Johannesburg shantytown dressed with a chandelier in Chandelier in 2001, trampling dishes like so many crushed bones in Golgotha in 2009, sharing the stage with his nanny in The Cradle of Humankind in 2011, he continues his very political art of wandering and confronts intimate or collective violence. In July 2021, he will premiere his new creation From Outside In at the TNB, a hybrid work composed of four "partitions" that confront each other to form a unique and singular word with three actors and actresses from the 10th promotion of the TNB Drama School. During the TNB Festival 2021, he will perform Put your heart under your feet... and walk!, a tribute to his deceased companion.
